San Stefanos really has something for everyone, whether it's for couples, families, or groups. Everything from a relaxing beach holiday to locally provided excursions and days out, including boat trips to the three Diapontia Islands from the local harbor, day and evening trips to Corfu Town, family day out at Aqualand, scuba diving or even a trip to historic Albania.
Below, you will find a list of places that we think are worth seeing during your stay. They can all be reached by car but if you prefer an organised trip then we suggest speaking to one of the travel companies in the village. Noula and her team at San Stefanos Travel will be more than pleased to offer suggestions.
Agios Stefanos - The villa is set back into the hillside, in the heart of Agios Stefanos village and you can easily walk to the beautiful, sandy beach which is only 500m from Rose Villa. You can hire sunbeds or make use of the free sunbeds on the beach in front of Waves, Mistral and Manthos restaurants. If you want a break from lying in the sun then you can wander around the village and visit one of the many tavernas or gift shops. You are also welcome to use any of the pools within the village, you don't have to be a resident at that hotel to use the facilities, the locals welcome anyone.
Avliotes - Avliotes is the next village to Agios Stefanos. If you like walking then you can head up into this nearby village for a traditional Greek lunch or evening meal.
Arillas – Due to Rose Villa being based on the hillside, there is a coastal path that leads you down to Arillas, which is also only 500m away. Like Agios Stefanos, it also has a sandy beach and many sea-front tavernas. If you want something different to do then why not pop to the micro-brewery in Arillas, which is home to the award-winning 'Corfu Beer' - it's worth visiting and tours are available.
Afionas - If you're into long walks then you could spend a day walking up through Arillas and onto Afionas, take in the view, have some lunch, and walk back again. If walking isn't your thing then you would need a car to get to Afionas. It's a pretty little village perched on the headland overlooking St George's Bay. It's a lovely place to go and have lunch or dinner with beautiful views.
Agios Georgios (St George's Bay) - A short drive away is St George's Bay, which is great for sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling.
Peroulades - Just beyond Avliotes is Peroulades. This is the place to go to soak up the stunning sunsets. They have a lovely bar there called 7th Heaven, which is famed for being the place to be at sunset. The bar is always open and they serve really good food. During the day you can go there and walk down to Logas Beach, to sunbathe and swim in the caves.
Sidari - If you are looking for a night out with busy bars and clubs, then Sidari is for you!! It's a much bigger town than Agios Stefanos and you can get there by car, bike or even taxi!
Canal D'Amour - Just outside of Sidari is Canal D'Amour, also known as the Channel of Love. It's an area where rock formations have formed coves, to swim in. According to tradition, couples who swim through the canal, end up getting married!
Kassiopi - If you fancy a change of scene and don't mind a bit of a drive, the Kassiopi is a lovely day out. It is a beautiful fishing village, situated on the North East of the island, and is definitely worth a visit. It is a busy town with lots of bars, shops, and restaurants and you also have a really clear view of Albania.
Paleokastritsa - Probably the most picturesque village on Corfu, Paleokastritsa has crystal clear waters and pebble beaches that you can either sit on and soak up the surrounding beauty or go for a walk and explore the Monastery.
Old Perithia - The ancient, mysterious village of Old Perithia, is definitely worth a visit. The village was once one of the wealthiest on Corfu and had around 1200 inhabitants, then during the 60's the locals migrated to other towns, leaving the buildings abandoned. There are a few tavernas still there and the locals welcome tourists, to wander around and see the buildings that still remain.
Corfu Town - Corfu Town is definitely worth a visit. Closed for much of the afternoon, you would need to go first thing in the morning and wander the lanes or late afternoon/evening and experience the hustle and bustle of this beautiful town. Explore the Old Fort or take in the nightlife on The Liston, there is always lots to do and see. You can drive or there are organised coach trips.
At only 40 miles long and, at its narrowest point, 7 miles wide, Corfu is an easy island to get around. Car hire is reasonably priced and the roads are pleasant to drive on, if you want to hire a car then we recommend Tsaros Car Hire. If you fancy seeing more than just the local area then you can find maps at many of the tourist information points in the village.
If you want to do something completely different then there are many trips and tours surrounding the ITV show The Durrells, which was filmed in Corfu between 2016 and 2019. You can head out of town to Kontokali, where you are able to see the house used as the family home in the show and across the road, the actual house where Gerald Durrell lived. To the north-east of the island, in Kalami, you will find the famous White House, home to Lawrence Durrell and his wife.
Whatever you want to do, there is something for everyone!
